There's no penalty for doing 20mph under the limit. You're fine.di41 said:Hi can anyone tell me the likely penalty for doing 50 in a 70 . Thanks.1 -

Thanks.SAC is typically offered up to 10% + 9mph i.e. for 50 limit - max 64mph.Doing 70 in a 50, almost certainly your speedo was showing 75 or more, even if you tried to argue you thought it was a 70 limit you would still have been over0

Given he was caught at 70 if the limit was 70 he wouldn't get a ticket. Arguing what you think the limit is isn't a defence.Deleted_User said:di41 said:Hi can anyone tell me the likely penalty for doing 50 in a 70 . What on earth are you on about ???I said, even if he thought it was a 70 his speedo would have shown him above 70 i.e. he knew he was speeding. I didn't say anything at all about using lack of knowledge of the speed limit as a defence???Also, you can be done for even 1mph over the limit if the police think your driving was dangerous, the 10% or 10% +3mph is just ACPO guidance, ANY speeding is an offence, per the law. Remember that your speedo can be as low as 10% + 9mph iirc over reading, so if the police caught you at say 72, your speedo could be showing 80+0 -

//...the 10% or 10% +3mph is just ACPO guidance,//
Just on a point of pedantry, the ACPO was abolished in 2015 and replaced by the National Police Chiefs' Council. Their guidance is that speeding enforcement should begin at Limit+10%+2mph. So in a 70mph limit, up to 78mph and you should be OK, 79mph should see enforcement. But as mentioned, that is only guidance and any excess is an offence.0 -

I understand the price of fresh haddock is around £15 per kilo.
