LIFTETIME Storage purchased cancelled 😕

I bought a LIFETIME storage with Zoolz.com through a promotion offered by another website called macworld.com 3 years ago.
I paid $69.99 for 2TB of storage.
They have cancelled. They said that it was impossible for them to sustain.
I haven't read the terms and conditions. They did send emails saying they wanted were going to cancel - I deleted these without reading in full detail - I have a LIFETIME service for which I paid, you can't have a slimy 1000th line in the terms and conditions squirming your way out? (Apart from the business going bankrupt and out business - this hasn't happened).

I paid using Paypal 3 years ago.
Where do I stand?
Whom should I go to to get my money back? Paypal I guess? They might turn around and say it was more than 12 months ago and want nothing to do with it.
Paypal are pathetic for protecting I have found.

Any advice would be much appreciate.

    Contact Zoolz?
Paypal won't be able to do anything after 3 years.

Why not?  What could they have said?

Not sure where you get 12 months from, but Paypal cover a SNAD/INR for 180 days (6 months ish) from purchase.

I couldn't figure out from their website what legal entity they actually are - or even which country they think they're based in, as their cut'n'paste terms include reference to the relevant jurisdiction being the "state and federal" courts of London but also to "Zoolz.com Inc" (which doesn't appear to exist) and other American references.
  • Thanks for the replies guys. $69.99 is not going to cause me endless sleepless nights.
For me... it's more the principal and not being given what I paid for.
    >> Contact Zoolz.
Done that. Getting robot made replies.
    >> Paypal won't do anything.
Paypal are a pathetic demon. As a seller you will get shafted with one hand. As a buyer you will get shafted with the other hand.
But my thinking (maybe I should say wishful thinking and praying) was that they are obliged to act on my behalf - since consumers, if buying product XYZ, then they can legitimately expect that item to last a 'reasonable amount of time'. Like if I bought a brick, I would expect it to last me a good 50 years. I'm sure someone will give me a telling off for having such high expectations and getting my logic and legal reasons completely wrong.

    >> Why not?  What could they have said?
I wanted to save my precious time and not waste anything while spending 10 minutes scan reading their t's and c's - which most likely I cannot get hold of the version they had 3 years ago.
But... I would say that the burden should be on them to pull out their 1000th line that gets them out of jail.
Pay $xx and get service for lifetime. You can't really get more plain that as I said in my original post?

Aaah... well that changes a lot actually. That really does screw everything up. They can continue to go shafting more and more customers and selling 'lifetime' plans for a one off fee in future. And essentially, I can't do jackall since there is no one to sue and go after - after 6 months or 12 months (when I could get some sort of consumer protection from my credit card company - I assume).
Maybe lesson well learned - NEVER ever will I go with a company that isn't a giant well known company like Google for example. I'm sure Google can screw things up. But, at least I can speak to someone and complain.

Is there ANYTHING I can do to get my money back?
Happy to spend 5-10 minutes pursuing.
    Thanks.

Overall £50 for 3 years of storage is cheap.  However there is the principle - so it depends on how much you value the principle versus how little you value your time.
I don't care about your first world problems; I have enough of my own!

Well, yeah - do you really think somebody who might just be one guy in their bedroom is really going to provide you with a lifetime of cloud storage for $70?

Apart from the business going bankrupt and out business

One will probably follow the other by the sounds of it
  • PayPal don't have an endless liability to you; they're a payment provider, not the service provider.
You're probably just going to have to suck it up unfortunately.
