Will Lenovo Thinkpad do the job?

Thanks, that was my thinking too. I've found another x270 i5 with 8GB, 256SSD and FHD screen for £279. It still just has the HD520 though, but I think it's worth purchasing even if I can't play merge dragons on it (curse my son for getting me addicted to that game

bubblycrazy said:Thanks, so you don't think it will work just updating it directly on the laptop?
How many times do you need to be told? The drive is failing. Let it sink in. Replace the drive or scrap the laptop.

No upgrading over the top. Clean install is best. You can try it with the current HDD if you like. But there is something that you should do firstly. Will send you a PM.
Laptop can still keep going for years, even with a line across the screen.
Though if you do go for an SSD, there is the possibility that you will be able to repurpose it even when the laptop eventually fails. So not really a gamble.1 -

Unless I've missed it, I'm not sure how we've established that?
Yes something is wrong ... no one has asked the OP about diagnostics because they said they were looking at buying a replacement laptop.
And personally, I'm on the fence. The old one is probably good enough if upgraded with an SSD, but for how long? It might be time to invest in a newer one and donate the old one to a recyling scheme to help someone learning from home. It really depends on how the OP feels?
A dream is not reality, but who's to say which is which?1 -

I do actually thing the HDD will fail at some point which is why I've spent the last two days putting photos on google and emailing documents to myself.CoastingHatbox said:And personally, I'm on the fence.
