    As stated, the keeper remains in the better legal position to defend this, as long as he would be up for it being in his name and attending a phone hearing.

    If he absolutely would not stand up to all this and would cave and pay £260 rather than face it, then send an email in his name NOW (before a court claim is served) where he signs and gives your name and address as driver.

    But this is absolutely a last resort, partly because your partial payment puts you on a less strong footing than most drivers, let alone keepers.

    Anyone can act as a lay representative in a court hearing, so you could take over and do everything in his name up to the hearing, if there is one, and can represent him at the hearing, but he must attend.
