Petplan price hike

I've just had the renewal quote For my labradoodle Lady, She is two years old and the renewal last year was £308 this year it's a whopping £359, I can't see how this is justified. So I went on the price comparison sites and found many cheaper quotes, out of curiosity I went on Petplan own website and started a quote and to my surprise it came back with a quote of £243. I will be phoning them tomorrow to insist that's what I pay or I'm off!
I think this is a blatant example of a loyalty fine as this is a lifetime plan I really would like to continue with them but hate being ripped off like this.

Pretty much standard practice.  Large discounts offered to get somebody to sign up and then the price increases greatly in following years.  If the dog is healthy and hasn't visited the vet for anything other than standard injections you may well find you can get cheaper cover elsewhere.  However, even if you have taken the dog for any form of investigation you may find it difficult to get cover elsewhere which doesn't exclude anything even vaguely related to the reason for any investigation.

Petplan won't reduce the premium. They will tell you to take out the new online one.

But remember you will not be covered for the first 14 days and since it is the same company they will not allow you to overlap the policies.

Anything you have  mentioned  your vet about , even if no medication was prescribed, will be considered a pre existing  condition along with anything that can be related to it in any way.
There are policies around that will cover a pre existing condition if there is no recurrence or further treatment for a number of years - often 2 years.
If being able to claim with direct payment to your vet , check with your vet which companies they will make a direct claim with. There may be restrictions due to previous experience of delayed payments.
Check out reviews for cheaper policies. They can  be cheap for a reason.

Petplan premiums are on the high side  but they do not increase premiums if you make a claim. Other companies do so if you need to claim you may end up paying more in the end.
