It's strange how we all remember when prices go up, but never when they go down. Historical prices are collated nicely here:

Whilst things are a bit distorted by consumption going down over the years (does the price of a unit even matter, surely the overall cost is all that matters) the overall picture is that we're paying no more than we were a decade ago, with significant reductions in recent years.
Before the data at the link above, prices were going up rapidly, but consumption was coming down even faster.1
