Swopping sky boxes.

A friend had sky fitted recently. Although she is very happy with it she cant get the hang of the sky+ box and prefers the video. I have a normal sky box out of contract on a £19 month package, and I have a twin LNB dish. She has offered me the sky+ box in exchange for mine. My question is can we simply swop the boxes over? I understand we will both have to ring sky to "marry" the new boxes to our viewing cards. I rang sky to ask if we can swop the boxes but the person I spoke to said when the sky+box rings in overnight it will expect a call from a sky+ box, not a normal box, and because she has only had sky+ recently on a special offer, you cant do it. I have read the T&C of the contact and can find nothing which says we cant. Any help?

You mentioned that the "friend had sky fitted recently".
If I recall correctly, the box belongs to Sky until the 12 months contract has expired, and you will not be able to swap it.0 -
Thanks for that. But why should sky care? They are still getting the same money from both of us for 12 months0

Why would she want to swap to a lower spec system.
Also, the cards are paired to the boxes, therefore if you swapped the cards over, i dont think they would work.
Give sky a ring, and see what they say.
Replace friend, with sister..
Good luck.0 -

Good luck.
If you read the post, you will see why she wants to swop. I have no sisters either

The cards are paired to the box so you will need that changed and you will need to get the record function activated as well or the box will just be able to do what a standard one does so thats why sky might care if you take someone elses box. Also what happend if the box you give her breaks down??? She will have no way of getting it fixed for free by sky as its not the one she should have0

Well you *can* do it but it gets complicated. You connect up her Digibox, put your card in it then phone Sky. Explain that you've bought a second-hand Sky+ box and you need them to activate your card in it, including the recording features.
She then does the same with your box and her card and explains that her Digibox went faulty so she's replaced it with an ordinary one.
Lord knows whether you'd both get away with this - but maybe. Sky don't seem to have any simple way to check on serial numbers.0 -
Why doesn't she just learn to use it? It's idiot proof and FAR more simple than faffing about with both a Sky box and VCR. Even my gran uses it without any issues.0

No chance! Its taken years for her to get to grips with a mobile phone!0
