Complimentary Warranty

Hi I put a deposit down for a car costing £5395 coming with an advertised complimentary 6 month warranty confirmed by the salesman (distance selling - COVID). When I received the Order Form it shows the price of the car being £5293 plus £102 for the warranty. How is this complimentary? Is this allowed under trading standards? Note: I have 14 days to cancel under distance selling rules but don't want to pay for a complimentary warranty.

It might not be "complimentary" but you were happy to pay £5395 including the warranty. Can't see that it's misleading, not as if they're suddenly increasing the price.

Add £5293 to £102 and you get £5395, the total price you agreed on and were happy with.Does it matter how the cost is split up so long as the total is the same?2

My hubby bought a camera and had a warranty thrown in too, he was told they couldn’t mark the warranty as zero but would mark the camera down by the same to still come out at the same price.0

If you don't like the deal any more, cancel.
Personally, I think you're brave to buy a second hand car you haven't seen or driven in person, anyway. Actually, I'll put that more strongly: foolish.1 -
This is nothing more than creative accounting by the car dealer to maximise their profits/commission.
All that matters is that the final price you paid is what you agreed to - how they do the sums is irrelevant.I don't care about your first world problems; I have enough of my own!0 -
Well surely you must have realised that the cost of the car included the warranty because complimentary doesn't mean it's free to them, this just shows that.Seetek said:Hi I put a deposit down for a car costing £5395 coming with an advertised complimentary 6 month warranty confirmed by the salesman (distance selling - COVID). Just out of interest, was it definitely advertised as a "Car with a complimentary warranty for £5395",
as opposed to a "Car with a complementary warranty for £5395"?
If it's a complementary warranty, then there's no suggestion that it would be free.

Pay the £5395 as agreed and dont have the warranty, then you aren't paying for it, easy.0
