Energy Prices

Options
Our energy costs have increased 35% this year, and a quick check of MSE Cheap Energy Club shows no better deals to be had (excluding Utility Point).
On top of Working From Home (gas use this winter seems twice what it was last winter!) - that is incredible double whammy. We have an average house, with pre-covid, slightly above average consumption. New Windows and other improvements should help matters somewhat, but energy costs seem higher than ever despite the Government Price Cap.

What is going on in the energy market?
A dream is not reality, but who's to say which is which?

My energy price has just risen this year, well it will do in February by 9.1%. I'm with Igloo
I think you need to do a few price comparisons, true usage usually gives a better price compare.
TBH I've done a few myself (comparisons) and the best savings I can come up with is around £50 annually, that's if I switch to E.on. Next best is Avro, saving  about £40. Worth it well I'm sticking for now, I know how much it's going up by, ok it's not fixed but also no exit fees either. Better the devil you know ATM.

Count yourself lucky that it's not your electric that has doubled.
If you put your general location in your Profile, somebody here may be able to come and help you.
  • Up until July I got my electricity from 'Outfox the Market' but they posted notice of price increases so I swapped to 'Symbio'. (Both following MSE recommendations) Now Symbio have notified increases which will put my bills up by 70%! I understand about wholesale gas prices increasing, but both the above claim to supply from renewable sources. The prices of wind and sunshine haven't gone up so why are they affected? Or is at all a bunch of lies?

Certainly a % of the energy that they supply you is from renewable sources but, if the wind doesn't blow and/or the sun doesn't shine then the % of energy they supply you will come from more traditional sources hence the increase in price.
