The implication underlying such a narrative is that everybody on benefits is on them by choice and having an easy life so you can stop that by making life less easy for them. In reality the idea that increasing stress levels over being unable to support yourself and your family would somehow help people prepare for and get into work is obviously mad. The policy makers are simply out of touch with reality.Alice_Holt said: The government justified the legislation by explaining that it would “incentivise” people to find jobs.Information I post is for England unless otherwise stated. It only serves to drive people further away from positive engagement in their community.
Poverty, dealing with physical pain, the stress of frequent WCA assessments often to lead to poor mental health (and further isolation).
I fear for the country when political ideology trumps sense. The levels of child poverty (and poor youth mental health) will condemn many kids from achieving their potential, and fully contributing to society. The societal costs of today's poverty may persist and blight future generations:

Ministers always fail to explain why rich people have to be given golden handshakes, pay rises and bonuses to incentivise them while poor people have to have their incomes reduced.Alice_Holt said:The government justified the legislation by explaining that it would “incentivise” people to find jobs.

Folks - very interesting, but please keep it to practicalities and benefits available on this thread - I chose this forum board rather than the discussions board for my question because I thought the answers might be useful to someone.

The short answer to your question is, for the most part, they can’t. And, regardless of what you want, if you start a discussion (which this forum isn’t meant to be used for) you don’t get to control how the discussion develops.kimwp said:Folks - very interesting, but please keep it to practicalities and benefits available on this thread - I chose this forum board rather than the discussions board for my question because I thought the answers might be useful to someone.

The question you asked was always going to lead to a discussion.

It seemed to be understood by the posters before you and you even point out that this forum isn't for discussions, so I am not sure why you have responded in this way.Statement of Affairs (SOA) link: https://www.lemonfool.co.uk/financecalculators/soa.phpFor free, non-judgemental debt advice, try: Stepchange or National Debtline. You can of course ask this but you can't tell members what they can and can't comment on and how they comment. You simply asked a question that was inevitably going to start a discusion.

Thank you for telling me what I can and cannot say, I do enjoy irony.poppy12345 said:kimwp said:calcotti said:

I could wax lyrical on how it was not inevitable that my question would lead to a discussion, but I think that it would inevitably.... lead to a discussion.Statement of Affairs (SOA) link: https://www.lemonfool.co.uk/financecalculators/soa.phpFor free, non-judgemental debt advice, try: Stepchange or National Debtline.
