Hello,
I recently ordered an item from Peacocks using PayPal as my payment method. I need to cancel this now, I have emailed Peacocks but they say they are experiencing high volumes of emails and it could be 5 days, by which time they will have processed my order. I have tried to go through PayPal but they say I need to contact the merchant and they can't refund it, I thought payments through PayPal were protected? Also, aside from this, I tried using a Love2Shop gift card, which should have had £30 on it, and the balance was showing as £5? I'm not a fan of gift cards in general, but usually you just tap in the number for whichever card you have and it takes the amount off your total order amount? Not happy if I have lost £25 somehow.

So you've placed an order which you no longer want.
The retailer's obligations extend to providing you with a full refund if the item is returned in as-new condition within 30 days of purchase.
The retailer don't have an obligation to respond to you in a matter of hours I'm afraid, so the chances are that the order will get shipped out, and you will have to refuse delivery of the order. Notify Peacocks that you are doing this. They have a duty to refund you within 30 days of receiving the item back, but will probably do it far sooner. Be prepared for a wait.
PayPal protection is there in the event that your order doesn't arrive within 30 days, or if your refund doesn't appear 30 days after a return, or if the item that arrived was not as described or not of merchantable quality and the retailer refuses to help / replace / refund.
Re: Love 2 Shop voucher.
Had you previously confirmed at any point that the balance was £30? Who put the cash on the card, you or someone else? How long have you had it? You should be able to obtain transaction history from Love 2 Shop to confirm how much was loaded on to the card and when, and where it was spent and when.
If someone else loaded the money on the card, but Love 2 Shop confirm to you that only £5 was ever put on the card, you need to take this up with whoever sent you the card and send them the proof from Love 2 Shop that they haven't loaded the funds they should have on to the card.
If you, or whoever loaded £30 on to the card definitely did load this amount, they will have been given a receipt or other proof of purchase, e.g. a transaction on their bank statement showing £30 to love2shop. You'll need to send this proof of purchase to Love 2 Shop explaining that they haven't credited the correct amount to your voucher.
