Balance transfer question

I have a credit card that I use for purchases and pay the balance off fully every month. A balance transfer offer has now appeared on that card and I would like to transfer a balance off another card where the existing 0% offer is ending.

If I transfer the balance now while there are still purchases on the card and then pay off the total value of the purchases before the due date of the next statement will that adversely affect the 0% balance transfer I will have made? Or should I just pay off the full existing balance before transferring from the other card?

Thanks

  • On most cards, you will still pay interest on the purchases, as you're not clearing the full balance.  There's a couple of exceptions.

If yours isn't one of the exceptions, use a separate card for purchases and clear in full each month.

Whether you pay interest on the purchases or not, it will not affect your 0% BT, unless you miss payments or go overlimit.
