Ultiliy Point changed direct debit date

HI - I found out today when I got a failed direct debit notification that Ultilty Point have changed my direct debit date without any notice from 25th of month to 20th of the month. Apparently they have used an outside company to collect their direct debits now and they have not given any notice to the customers. Is this legal? I will have also incurred bank charges for failed direct debit. I spoke to Utility Point today who said I 'might' be able to get my bank charges compensated.
