Painting over silicone

Will using something like shellac primer enable me to then apply emulsion paint on top of the silicone sealant ?

Possibly. But as silicone sealant is flexible, what ever you paint over the top will crack and eventually flake off.Any language construct that forces such insanity in this case should be abandoned without regrets. –

I had this issue, removed silicon and replaced with caulk, which is fine to paint over.

I feared the only solution was to remove the silicone because there's a lot of it both in length and volume applied, plus it's adhered to plaster on one side and plastic ducting on the other..it isn't a neat application...removing the silicone sounds really like hard work but it's the risk of scratching the other surfaces that worries me, especially the plastic ducting.. has anyone any ideas on the best way to remove the silicone ...? i did wonder of I could apply masking tape over the silicone and then paint pver that, but alas I'm told masking tape won't take being painted over....
