FiT transfer delays

Seventh Anniversary Combo Breaker First Post
Is anyone else having long delays changing FiT payment companies? We have received FiT payments ever since we installed solar panels six years ago. My last FiT provider, iSupply, announced late in summer 2020 it was ending the service and we had to find someone else. We transferred our FiT application to Scottish Power who asked for every conceivable document under the sun. That was in October. It is now January 2021 and we are still waiting for our transfer to be completed. We have not been asked for a reading or received a payment since iSupply ended the service. Scottish Power blandly says it takes time and there is no appeal or complaint service.

You need to lodge a formal complaint with Scottish Power.  If they do not sort it within 8 weeks you can take it to the Ombudsman.  He deals with any complaints about a supplier, including FIT.

  • Cancel the FiT transfer and try someone else?
As who you choose as your FiT licensee doesn't affect payments, only service, there isn't really any point completing a switch to a supplier who is already giving you rubbish service.

One thing to consider though is if it's Scottish Power or iSupply/Ofgem holding up the switch? If iSupply have already closed down their FiT team then it could be that Ofgem need to approve the transfer and switch readings. In my experiences the Ofgem FiT team are slow when looking at individual cases suppliers have sent, but I can't remember anything ever taking 3 months.

It won't be worth contacting Ofgem directly though as you'll need to go down the route of opening a complaint and going through the ombudsman as Mister_G mentioned if you want to try and get a bit of progress with SP.
