Chased for an old debt

In around 2006 i got a credit card from one of the banks, 2008 my business folded so folded so found it difficult to make payments for a few years. Around 2012 I stopped making payments and have had no contact contact with the credit card company since. I have had various calls and letters from a debt collecting company regarding the debt over the years with a letter turning up yesterday to my new address. The debt is around £9k but does not show on my credit file. Am i able to have the debt written off as there has been no communication from myself for more than 6 years and if so how do I go about this. I had a few other financial issues in the past but over the last 12 months I've done all I can to improve my credit rating and this last debt is the only thing now hanging over me. I know I could probably continue to ignore the calls etc from the debt collectors but I'd rather get this sorted once and for all. I'm not in a position to clear the debt via payment. Thanks in advance for any advice given.

If it's a consumer debt and it's not been acknowledged in 6 years (and there's no CCJ), then it would be statute barred. It won't be written off, but it's unenforceable.1

Was it a company debt or a personal debt.
Personal debts are statute barred after 6 years and youcan safely assume it is not your problem and you can write and tell them so and to stop bothering you, to put it bluntly
Not sure if the same applies company debt but someone will be along soon to clarify
make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -
Hi it was a personal debt and no CCJ so from whats been said i'm assuming its been statute barred. Is there a way to check this?0

I just didn't want to contact the debt collectors and this be seen as contact and then set off them chasing me more.0

Send them a letter using the template here:

The onus is on the creditors to prove that it is enforceable. I suspect you won't hear from them again.0 -
