  • Thanks to all who contributed. I was of course talking about maintenance loans not tuition fee loans.
    Having re-read Martin's posts and guides, it seems perverse but true that the best thing to do is bank the excess money.
    The 3rd year is a student midwife (and it's outrageous that she has to take out *any* loans), so will never be a high earner, the 1st year who knows, but being also female is likely to have some career breaks and not earn mega-bucks.

    if the loans were based on living away form home and they are  now staying at home they need to tell Student Finance of the change.

    Given that they probably want to be locking the money away for quite a lot of years, perhaps to purchase a property, and that bank interest is a waste of space the real question is how should your daughters be investing the money to make the most of it.
