Ingenious Legal

July 2020 received a cheque for a ppi claim . Oct 2020 first received a text from IL saying i owe them over £500.then email arrived with a link to pay . replied to email sent them a copy of letter saying my ppi claim was time barred.asked what did that mean . they replied.i replied back does that mean i didn't win. Never replied to that question just sent another request for payment . I replied the payment was not from the company they were claiming . they asked who the cheque was from . I told them . they said the company was a part of the other company . I sent them a pic of the part of the letter stating it was not a part of the other company . again another email requesting payment . looked up Idengious on google found complaints about this company . sent an email 7th Dec requesting proof of contract . they replied an email would be sent of proof.no more contact from them until 8th Jan when a letter arrived from them . the letter is just basically a request for payment . no proof has been received . the only thing i signed was paper forms from the claim guys years ago . who was unsuccessfully getting anything from the ppi claim as the company kept stating they couldn't find an account in that name etc . it's stressing me out . I don't know whether to pay it or not . I might have clicked on IL site on Facebook. I dont remember. But i know i have never received anything from then until 2020.

You need to ask them for the proof of contract. That will determine whether you need to pay or not. Until they respond, keep the money to one side.
  • I asked for proof in Dec . no reply . I have contacted the firm the cheque came from as it stated they had to inform any third party . waiting for reply.
  • Send them another letter, obtain free proof of postage from the PO
Send them a DSAR as well while you're at it, you can google a sample letter template, might as well make them do some work and see what they hold on you e.g. it might reveal a copy/paste signature or worse
