O/S Daily Wednesday 20 January 2021
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning
Morning everyone
Hugs to those that want/need them, those who are poorly and those who are looking after a poorly person x
Happy birthday to those with a birthday x
Dark, blustery and wet underfoot - forecast is for much the same for today but then getting colder again.
DH and DS1 getting ready for work, I'm showered, dressed and enjoying my first cuppa and my porridge whilst on here.
Dinner last night was LO roast beef, yorkshires, veg and gravy - lovely it was too. Tonight will be gammon, pasta and rice.
Yesterday work was ok, everyone just trying to carry on as best they can, I have a meeting with my supervisor today but it's not likely I will find out any further info - it's looking like it will be into March/April before we know. My last work day this week - on days' off until Monday - enjoying my days' off so much as work is so pants at the moment. I have quite a few things I want to do whilst I'm off, so have a bit of a list.
Keep safe and well x

Good morning, thanks for the new thread nmlc, I hope that you enjoy your day off. I have been awake since 5:30, but did not get much sleep in any case, slept in the chair last night, it's a partial recliner, but not enough for comfort. Yesterday was an odd day, Ddog vomited massively in the afternoon on the SR carpet, it took ages to sort out the carpet shampooer and clean up, she obviously felt poorly the rest of the day so I decided to shut her in the SR overnight and keep her company, a little brighter this morning so we will see how things go for a couple of hours.
Hammering down with rain, shopping delivery due 9-10, we normally stand outside and the driver or us off loads from his crates into our smaller ones at a distance.
OH is up and making me a cuppa, I may go to bed for a while, but think that might leave me with a thick head, a nana np later perhaps.
As ever thinking of those amongst us who are poorly, troubled or just plan fed up, take care stay safe.
The best thing about the future is that it comes one day at a time. (Abraham Lincoln)13 -
Morning folks and thanks NMLC. Your work situation is ridiculous the way they have you all on tenterhooks. It sounds to me that it's the management that needs a good shake up. MADDIEMAY I hope poorly doggy is a bit better today and you manage a nap later. GERS you sound to be doing a sterling job up there binning all the OOD ingredients. (You may just have prompted me to do the same!)
We are still awaiting the arrival of Storm Christoph hereabouts and sandbags have been distributed to the areas most prone to flooding. We are ok up here thankfully. If we were flooded all those down in the valley bottom would be submerged. There are so many areas at risk with this new storm. Isn't life bad enough just now without having your home or business flooded as well. We are certainly living in trying times..
I have given myself a good talking to and am climbing out of the black hole I fell into over the weekend. There are folks with far more to worry about than me but sometimes it's difficult to think that way. Of course all the usual worries are still there but are now in perspective.
Have a good folks and ((HUGS)) for all in need. In fact I think we need one big ((GROUP HUG)) these days. Take care and stay safe one and all x

Good morning everyone
I haven't been very well mentally so haven't posted for a while. Yesterday was particularly horrific in that my cousin was found deceased in the most awful way and so there will be a big police investigation as they are unsure whether it was a suicide or murder. As you can imagine we are all devastated and I can't stop worrying about my aunty and nan. This year is certainly shaping up to be as bad as last year.
I have just made some soup as I couldn't sleep properly and cooking always makes me feel calmer. The house now smells of curried cauliflower, I hope it tastes nice.
I am going to go back to bed for a bit, hopefully I can get some more sleep before all the phone calls start again.
Hope you all have a good day whatever you are up to, take care xx

Morning folks.Dumpling - so sorry about your poor cousin, either way it's awful. I hope you can gather your strength around yourself. My marathon task yesterday unearthed 14 bags of flour which I'll be taking to the tip later this morning along with large amounts of assorted nuts and seeds. Such a blooming shame. Now there's loads of empty storage boxes. I'll tackle the other stuff tomorrow afternoon. In a wee while I've got a three-way phone call with my SIL and a great friend, both of whom are in Australia. We are going to do this once a month though my news will be so boring. We now have the current restrictions until at least mid-February.Got to shift myself. I hope that everyone is doing well Happy Wednesday to all.14

Morning All
Chilly this morning but all's calm at the moment. There was snow last night but as it had rained most of the day it didn't settle thankfully. Thinking of you all in the storm areas, hope there isn't as much rain as forecast. TA, you stay up that hill!
What a terrible loss dumpling, love and hugs to you.
Hope the poorly folk (and dogs) feel better soon.
What a job Gers but best to get rid of what you can, nothing will be of any use anyway. My parents were terrible hoarders, we used to sneak out a few things everytime we visited, pre-decimal price tags were an idicator of age!
I am definitely going to re-seal the shower this morning, it's such a faff having to have a bath all the time. I'll sort through the bathroom cabinet too although it was done not so long ago so not expecting many surprises.
I put last night's washing on a rack in the living room overnight as the stove was still blazing so that's dry this morning, there's another load in to go on the pulley when it's finished.
Hope you can all have a good Wednesday, take care. XX14 -
How awful dumpling - I hope you keep posting here as I know I find it a real source of comfort to come and share the ups and downs.
It's wet and windy here not that I need to go anywhere!
I am working at home today and actually really enjoying my job at the moment so that is something!
There was a huge family row the other day has left me feeling a bit down really - some people can just move on and forget it but it takes me a little time to get over these things and get back to normal.
Anyway back to today - I'm just waiting for the shopping to be delivered and will then put that away and have breakfast before I start work. I've already had a clean around and am about to put a dark load of washing on. I'm not sure about food for today but have some turkey escalopes so perhaps those with some veg. I'm still enjoying the jelly I made with yoghurt so will have that too.
Not much else to report.
My thoughts are with everyone with so much going on right now.

Dumpling we cross posted so I missed your post I will be keeping you and your family in my thoughts xSlava Ukraini14

Good morning and thank you for starting the thread nmlc.
Dumpling, how awful and sad for your family, I'm so sorry.
It is blowing a hoolie here - though just in the last few minutes it calmed down and is getting going again. I looked at the met office weather site and I don't actually remember them using the word torrential before. We are in a bit of a dip too. I've been down to the bottom of the garden to look at the brook, it is quite high. I have seen it much higher though and I think that's likely to happen later. I got a bit wet but not soaked, having picked my moment. Put the birds' food out but I'll put more out soon because the squirrels are happily munching it all now.
I have an 'online learning event' to do this morning, contact with other humans! Though I do stay in touch with my friends by various means. I long for the day when I can have a cup of tea with a friend in safety. And without getting arrested.
Gers it must be a difficult thing to do, all that getting rid of out of date stuff but you will feel better once it has gone. I have a bit of out of date flour to use in my next compost pile but the quantity you have to get rid of would just clog, otherwise I'd have suggested taking it to an allotment site.
I can hear OH getting up and ready to start his day so I'll go and have my shower, I don't like to disturb him before he wakes naturally.
I hope everyone has a tolerable day.
I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back13
