HSBC BRANCH CLOSURES

We have seen that the branch our account has been with for over 50 years is closing in July.

Payment details, direct debits, cheques, credit cards etc all revolve around the acct number and sort code for the branch that's closing.

Anyone know if HSBC will automatically transfer our account to another branch and issue us with a new sort code/account number plus new credit card/debit cards/ cheque books, or will we be required to make these arrangements?

I don’t think they do do they? We’ve had 4 banks close down nearby and unless I’ve missed something I don’t believe any of our details have changed. Certainly you wouldn’t have to do that if so, they’d sort that out

Well, FWIW, my mother's local Halifax branch closed a year or two ago. Her account was transferred to a branch in the next town. Neither her sort code nor her account number changed. Similarly, my local TSB branch closed in October. Neither my sort code nor my account number changed as a result.

Anyway. as @adamp87 says, it's not your problem. HSBC will make any changes they require.

The sort code nowadays is purely a routing number for the banking system- they don’t have any records held in branches anymore.

Neither.  Your sort codes and account numbers will stay exactly the same.  Stop worrying!

As for sort codes, I actually had two HSBC accounts. One I created online and I received a central sort code, another I opened in branch where I received a local sort code. My father held an account at a closed HSBC branch, the details did not change.

The other thread is the better one about branch closures.
This one, despite the title, is really just about worrying about whether account details change when a branch closes.
