Hermes parcel went missing and was accused of fly tipping.

Hi,
Apologies if this isn't the correct category.
Way back in November I ordered a package and it was due to be delivered from Hermes. Weeks later that parcel never turned up and the Hermes tracking said there was an issue.
I got my money back from the supplier but still had no correspondence back from Hermes.
A few days before Christmas I received a letter from my council, accusing me of fly tipping and cautioning me, and requested formal interview responses. The parcel packaging was found in a fly tip - the item wasn't there!
This is now sorted and the council have dropped the investigation, with a fairly generic comment.
I would like to complain to Hermes formally, or ideally to an independent ombudsmen. Does anyone know who is best to complain to?
I'm nkt after anything other than acknowledgement and perhaps an apology.
Tom

There is no ombudsman or any such thing as a "formal" complaint. You can try contacting Hermes and see what they say.

Personally I'd let it drop.It can never be proven whether the parcel was mis-delivered or stolen so what would you expect this apology to consist of?1

I suppose your complaint could be to the council for assuming that just because your details were on the parcel, that you were responsible for tipping it. But, this is how they approach most flytipped stuff -- the person that created the rubbish (assumed to be you) and the person that took it from you and dumped it (e.g. Man And Van Cheap Clearances) are both jointly liable.
However, they gave you the opportunity to put your side (under caution!) and seem to have accepted your version of events. Be thankful for that!
Hermes won't be too bothered about the situation, customer service and grovelling apologies are not high on their priorities.
You could complain to Joe Lycett, who will no doubt re-enact the whole thing with added drama and comedy, for TV -- he's poked at Hermes before, but nothing much changes!
