Greenhouse with no or little sun
Options
I have just moved from a corner house that the sun started at the front and ended at the back. My Greenhouse was in the back garden. I have now moved house and have no idea at this time when I will get the sun. I believe it may only be at the top right hand corner of my garden. This is where I want a patio to be laid. I have bought a 12 x 8 greenhouse but don't want it to be put in that corner so my question is will things still grow out of the sun? As my garden is water logged it needs to get drainage when the weather improves before I can do anything but I'm trying to work out where things will go now. I don't even know which way my garden is facing but it's certainly not south like my last one.

See we're the sun is at midday. That is as near to due south as you need to know.Heat and light is of course essential for healthy growth, but direct sunlight is always desirable..._0

I'd start with a compass to work that out. It will be useful for planning planting.Put a stick or cane in the lawn and in the brief moments the sun appears that should show you something about how the sun/shade works in your garden Even though it will change as the sun gets higher in the sky it's still a good guide.A lot will depend on how big the plot, how high the boundaries. For me I found that partial shade was good with the current blisteringly hot and dry summers we've had. I've even had to build in shade for my veg bed that faces SE.I know you're keen to do it all now, I was and I moved at this time of year. Then I had to move all the seating because it was so hot in that location and put the seeds now down the side alley to give them some cool. My patio sits folorn and merely as decoration.
I can rise and shine - just not at the same time!

Have a look at Google Earth, you can add sun direction and track it on your house during the seasons, GE already has compass points built in so no guessing required

You don't need full-on sunshine all day in a greenhouse. If you did, no one would have invented various forms of shading. Getting the sunshine balance right can be tricky, as can days when the temperature goes up and down like a yo-yo. It's all part of the learning that makes raising plants interesting.Get to know your plot in summer as well as winter before making big decisions.0

Thank you all. I can see the sun hitting the houses to the side of my house (opposite) now. With the snow my whole garden looks bright lol.I have not been able to work out via Google earth. I think the option may only show on the pro version. At least my mind is at rest that I can still grow things. I imagine it will be March or April before I can do the drainage. At that point hopefully I will know where the sun hits.

The sun comes up in the east and sets in the west it travels through the south. Though in Winter it doesn't move as far round as Summer as it sets earlier. That might give you an idea so if the sun shines on the front in the morning that's likely to be East facing.Focus on contribution instead of the impressiveness of consumption to see the true beauty in people.0
