Moving in Partner

Me and my partner have recently been thinking about moving in together. The idea is that he'd move into my home, which I purchased a year before I met him. Do I need to let the mortgage adviser know of this change? Also, should I be asking for my partner to help pay some the bills, and if so, should it be just the bills or the mortgage included?
As this will be our first time living together, I'm not sure how it'll go and I want to protect myself and my assets, just in the off chance that living together might not work. Is there anything I can set up to protect myself and my property, as I don't want to lose it or have my partner claim half when I had originally bought it with my own money before I met him?

    Hello.
    I am in a similar situation so can share my experience. Bought a property in October 2017 and met my partner in the summer next year. We decided to live together (at my place) from February last year. As I also wanted to avoid complications with sharing assets etc. I proposed that I am covering all the bills, including mortgage and any flat maintenance (at that time I had a lodger who now moved out) and my partner pays for food. I saw living together as something that we could both benefit financially from. So, I saved on the food costs while my other expenses are exactly the same as when I was living on my own and my partner spends little more on food while not paying any rent.
    One important thing to mention is that perhaps we could share all the bills together but it would only be fair in my opinion of we shared our salaries together and I am earning more. However, our plan is that the current settings enable my partner to save more which is our focus right now as we're thinking of leaving the UK in the next few years and I want my other half to own property so the asset will give some degree of protection in case of something happens to me or our relationship. 
  • I'd say its fair to ask for a contribution towards all bills. He is after all using all of the utilities. 

    I'd also say it is fair to ask for a small amount of rent on top, however this is where things become a bit unclear in legal terms, as if he is seen to be making contributions towards your mortgage then I believe he might have grounds to make a claim in the event of a split. 

    Most definitely do not ask him to pay for any future home improvements.
