Assuming the neighbour has reported the incident to his insurers it will almost certainly be least painful and risky to claim directly from them as others have said. However, she does still need to inform her insurers about the incident... a) make sure you call the insurance company, there are claims management companies advertising on Google under insurance company brands to try and trick you into thinking your speaking to your insurance company and b) be clear to them that the third party insurer is managing the claim directly and you dont need support from them (or their credit hire lead buyer)

    Indeed, @DiddyDavies , indeed...

Perhaps the OP is her support bubble, and can take her to appointments?
Or perhaps Dial-a-Ride can take her?
Perhaps shopping can be - SHOULD be - delivered? I mean... I'm relatively young and healthy, and there's no way I want to be in a supermarket currently...

Simply put - if there was the faintest hint that she may end up with the bill for the hire car, how necessary would <say> £250/week be viewed?
How many times in the average week would it be used?

Of course, it's entirely feasible the hire car will simply not be an issue.
If the car is an open-and-shut write-off, then the payment could be made same day.
No hire car need be provided once a write-off has been agreed and paid...
Are you assuming the disabled mum is old then? She may be younger than you.

Are you actively trying to find things to take offence at, whether they're there or not?

I did not say I was young relative to the OP's mother. The relativity was to the population, as age relates to enhanced covid risk.

Anyway, if you'll excuse me, I've got to tidy the kitchen up a bit before the supermarket delivery arrives.

I've not take offence, only stating you've made some assumptions on this thread.
