Halifax Mortgage in principle

Hi All,
just after some good stories on any information on the likeliness of being accepted for full mortgage offer with Halifax?
ive had credit problems in the past, had a CCJ for £330 due to come off in 5 months, also defaulted virgin media account
due to come off in 6 months. All fully
satisfied. My credit score is still low
on Experian 620 and my partners 999. We got AIP and offer accepted on a new build
using help to buy scheme our LTV will be 73%. I have some credit card debt which will be cleared in next couple of months but I’ve used the my limit on credit cards on a couple of occasions but always made the payments and cleared them in the end.
Both earn combined total of £63k. I literally can’t sleep thinking I’m going to let my partner down if it’s declined.
Anyone else been in similar position and had good success with Halifax?
Thanks all

    Hi,
I cant help with the credit problems in the past as I have no credit issues however I've had a successful mortgage offer through with Halifax with a bit of debt still active and borrowing right on my maximum limit with them. I'm a single applicant using HTB Scotland, 68% LTV.
At the time of application I had roughly 10k credit showing on my file. I got my offer through in September on the condition this would be reduced down before completion, and now due to complete in 5 weeks. I still have 3k left of the credit however I have plans in place to clear the rest on completion if required so hoping for a smooth completion.
Hit a few bumps in the road due to being a single applicant etc but nothing major.
Are you using a broker? If so you'll be fine, they wouldn't waste their time placing you with lenders who will reject you, and even if they do reject you they'll move on and apply elsewhere.
    Good luck!

We have literally just had our mortgage application accepted with the Halifax. My partners credit is excellent but I have a CCJ on my file for £279 which falls off my credit file in July, other than the CCJ there is no other adverse or late payments. We have a joint income of £66.5k and have credit card debt of £17k and a HP agreement with another 12 months to run.

Our remortgage application for an 85% LTV was really very straight forward. We applied on the 12.01.21 and had our mortgage approved on 15.01.21 and are just waiting for the hard copies of the mortgage offer to arrive by post.

Like you I was worried that my past credit history would let us down. But we answered all of the questions truthfully and the application was accepted in double quick time.
  • This is encouraging relieved. Do they ask for reasons behind why the debt occurred? Did they require more then 3 months bank statements? I just can’t stop thinking it will get declined for some reason. Didn’t realise buying first home with no chain would be so stressful haha.
Thank you all for posts so far

They asked very few questions. They didn't even ask for a bank statement, just latest payslips for the two of us.
