in Cutting tax
I have just noticed that ali express is now charging you vat on goods purchased from china. Since dec 31. I wonder why this is? I thought brexit meant things where going to be cheaper, not more expensive? So what ever you buy from there, your looking at 20% more. Looks like EU stil wins. What did it achieve? nothing in my eyes

It is probably this:
https://www.nintendolife.com/news/2020/11/watch_out_europe_-_importing_consoles_from_the_u_s_just_got_a_lot_more_expensive
At the end, it queries whether Brexit will help. Obviously not so far.0 -
worth reading up on what actually caused it before shouting brexit. Nothing to do with it.2

Ok, but this has nothing to do with our country. We are not in europe any more. Secondly, the order i was going to place, is from aliexpress coming from china. Nothin to do with the US0

Ths ia what aliexpress saysFrom 11PM 31 December 2020, AliExpress is required by law to collect UK Value-Added Tax (VAT) at the applicable rate and remit to the UK tax authority when goods are sold to UK customers (i) where the goods are located outside the UK at the point of sale with a consignment value of GBP135 or less, or (ii) where the goods are in the UK at the point of sale, but sold by an overseas seller. You shouldn't really be complaining, you're not having to pay more. You're just paying what you always should have been, but often got away with as packages were marked with low values to avoid taxes or just didn't get picked up by customs.0 -
The UK left Europe? thats new to me. Will check with my Geography Teacher if it`s true.leeparsons said:Ok, but this has nothing to do with our country. We are not in europe any more. Secondly, the order i was going to place, is from aliexpress coming from china. Nothin to do with the US0 -

You never paid for tax under £15. So yes i am. I never actually went above these values, as you ran the risk of a unwelcome fine. Actually i can see they have been inspected by customs at times, as it looks like they have been relabel by customs.finalfantasist said:

Where did you get the idea that Brexit would lead to a reduction in prices?
Oh, I remember: some politician had it written on the side of a bus....what was his name again? No free lunch, and no free laptop

not a reduction in prices. Did i say that? No i didn't. Anyway, the question isn't a political one. If you dont have anything better to add to conversation, then why dont you troll off some where else then. ( That's putting it politely). Let you work that out for yourself.macman said:Where did you get the idea that Brexit would lead to a reduction in prices?

But technically, now that we can trade freely with others. If our government has actually done some good deals with the rest of the block ( thats world), we could potentially do better. As the cost of living is far cheaper to rest of europe.0 -
Actually i just check, its applied to the total, including postage. That is a scam. You never pay vat on postage.0
