My machine is about to die on me. Went out and bought a seagate external drive. plugged in the lead and got one image of the my machine. Thought I would repeat the process some weeks later and my pc cannot see the external drive there are a couple of sockets on the front of my machine, tried both machine can't see the external drive. I am desperate to get shot of this rubbish machine just don't want it to die on me too soon. See other post on what should I buy, eventually I need to transfer stuff from the old hard drive to my new machine... any help much appreciated. Devon girl

XP?
All other usb items working ok?
plug in disk
Start, Run, type diskmgmt.msc. Is the disk showing up there (the bottom half sometimes has a scroll window) if so assign a drive letter if not already assigned.GOOGLE it before you ask, you'll often save yourself a lot of time.
