Hi
booked flights to Florida with Norwegian Air to depart September 2020 but due to COVID flights cancelled and money converted to cash points. Flight was rescheduled for March 21 but due to my partner requiring chemotherapy we couldn’t fly so paid £550 to reschedule again for October  21. Norwegian Air have just cancelled all long haul flights. They have given me cash refund for the £550 but £3000 in cash points but I can’t book the flights again as they are not doing them. Sent numerous emails with no response asking for full refund as they can’t provide me with what I originally required. Does anyone know my rights ? Everything was booked via credit card.

Did you choose cash points instead of a refund for the first flight?
Presumably they will recommence long haul flights at some point.

Norwegian as a group are for all intents and purposes insolvent, and currently restructuring in both Norway and Ireland.

This is going to be a case of Section 75 if paid on a credit card or travel insurance if not, as it's likely that the operating carrier (Norwegian Long Haul, which either is or in the next few days will be in liquidation as already confirmed by the group) doesn't have the funds to reimburse.

  • Yes I did convert to cash point for the first flight as they were still running flights to Florida but now long haul flights have been stopped.
  • Same here. Had a flight to Brazil cancelled in March and got points for it. Then booked a flight to NY for August 2021 (paid some difference by credit card) and now got an email saying that it has been cancelled and they won’t do long haul flights anymore! They refunded my extra £75 on my card and again almost 2k in points - which are now useless as they only fly to Scandinavia now from Gatwick! I’m simply can’t believe it!  How can this be legal?

If you click on the link above you will see an existing thread. It might be better for you to connect with similar MSE posters in the same situation and from there share information on what you have been told and perhaps agree collectively on steps forward.  Having two threads does not help.  One of the Board Mods might be able to merge them. @heatherw_01
