LPE1 charge cap

Options
Anyone know when this cap of £200 + vat, mooted in June 2019 is actually going into legislation? It was meant to support leaseholders from being charged excessive fees by managing agents for filling in this form in relation to selling flats and yet it seems that sellers are still being charged well in excess of this. I’ve tried googling it but can’t find anything relating to law, only the initial intent to legislate from 2019. Anyone?

  • There is meant to be a package of leasehold reforms coming up 'in the next parliamentary session' (which is normally spring-spring I understand, but doesn't have to be). There was a big announcement on intent to reform leaseholds further recently, and most of that stuff is probably still years away, or in government language 'in due course'. But they did say they will be doing some things [small things, by implication of what was mentioned] in this next session.

We don't know what is in this next package, but it wouldn't surprise me if this LPE1 issue was given it was flagged some time ago. Doesn't mean it will be though!

Maybe someone else has more detailed info. You could always try writing to your MP too, their office can find out things like this sometimes.

  • This was June 2019. Nothing’s changed. Intent is one thing but it’s worthless unless it becomes law.
