TRACING LOST SHARES

Good Afternoon

Our extended family and a few relatives hold shares in the following companies:

Equiniti

Halifax

Halifax Investment Services

Santander

Scottish Hydro Electric

SSE

National Grid

Equiniti Iberdrola

BT

Centrica

However, due to some personal issues (and leaving things for someone else to do), a few (if not all) of all the paperwork has either been mislaid or lost.

Can anyone kindly suggest tthe best way to track paperwork for these shares?

Thank You

  • Hi,
you would need to contact the registrars of each company, giving as much detail as possible.

Scottish Hydro Electric was merged with SSE some years ago.

Equiniti Iberdrola ~ that's an odd one. Equiniti themselves offer company registrar services. Iberdrola is a company in it's own right, amongst it's acquired companies is Scottish Power. Probably where the holding originated from. Here's a link to the companies Equiniti provide services to including Iberdola.

Halifax Investment Services ~ Is this the actual company that traded under that name or the place where the shares are actually held on a nominee basis i.e. Halifax Bank. (Halifax Investment Services is an Australian company that went bust).

Did someone manage these investments on behalf of everyone? What evidence do you have for the holdings to still exist?

  • The OP seems to mix up company registrars or share administrators with energy companies they have invested in, but as above contact the registrar for each holding.

Scottish Hydro became SSE after it merged with Southern Electric. As usual, I suspect someone didn't throw their defunct or sold (by other means) certificates away but some or all of the SSE certificate(s) could actually relate to these.
