Has anyone had any trouble contacting opodo?. Impossible to get in touch with and still waiting on a £2000 refund.

I got a refund from the credit card company. I felt it helped my case that Opodo wouldn't talk to me. I was worried Opodo might refund me minus a stupid service charge but the credit card company just refunded me in full after I protested that Opodo wouldn't communicate.
  • Yes also chasing over £1,000 refunds from Opodo since last March - will never use them again, ever.  I escalated to a complaint and they accepted that a refund is due but delayed paying it for months. They have now changed thier story (and website so save screen grabs from thier app) to say that it was a 'no-show' when the flights were clearly cancelled.
I persued a S75 credit card chargeback but due to a technicality that isn't going to work, so I'm here gathering information as I can't see any other option now but to write them a letter giving x days notice of court action and then will lodge a claim with money claim online.
    Any tips or suggestions please?
    Thanks Nobby
  • I too have an issue with Opodo. They had my money for nearly a year, I had to call them over 15 times with different answers from their customer service. Finally, I have got a refund of £1753 but they kept the booking fee of £29.57 and won't refund it.
They didn't deliver the service so that is wrong, but I guess they know I won't fight hard enough for it. I shall not use them again either,

They did deliver the service. You asked them to act as your agent and book tickets for you. They did this. They are entitled to keep booking fees as per the terms you agreed to as they don't work for free. If you don't wish to pay booking fees go direct to the airlines and book for free.

what do the terms and conditions you agreed to state?  Third party service fees for doing the work with the airline on your behalf range from £25 to $250 per booking depending on the third party so it seems that Opodo are at the lower end of the scale and would be deemed reasonable.
As above, third party fees can be avoided by booking direct with the airline and then you are their customer and can deal with them directly (for my experiences 1 refund involved over 50 telephone contact attempts eventually getting through 3 weeks after flight date, another was about 20 attempts....for the first I would likely have been happy to pay someone £30 to deal with it as was extremely frustrating!)
  • Phew 😅 @TESCOBOT.  I would be dancing in the street if all I conceded was £29.57.  Extreme circumstances and extreme measures.  Count yourself lucky in the grand scale of things

Agreed, the only way to avoid the booking fee would have been to do a chargeback.
  • I got the majority back but customer service was appalling, and yes I can see I was lucky compared to some, but I couldn't get my money for nearly a year, in circumstances where every penny counts. I tried a chargeback but had left it too late.
  • I had to do a chargeback through my bank. They haven't challenged it yet,- they are known for lying at all stages to try and stop the refund. Next stage would be a court claim, which some people have success with.
