Identity fraud

Hi , new here , not sure if I’m posting in right place ?
I very very rarely have taken credit out in my life ,then out of the blue I get a couple of heavies at my door saying I owe money
I checked my credit score on check my file ,to my alarm there are several defaults on there recorded by Lowell , link financial etc relating to unpaid credit cards ,.I immediately told the police and have a crime ref number , I have emailed the debt collection agencies and explained I’m a victim of fraud and I quoted the police ref , I have also had my mail redirected to an unknown address
whilst it’s still early days in communicating with these companies I’m wondering how hard it will be removing them and or ending up having to pay debt which I didn’t open
is there anything else I can do ?
Many thanks

Welcome to the forum, don't panic and have a little patience, on the weekend not all knowledgeable posters are attending but they will. This is probably a better place to post than your other thread.

You have made some sensible moves, meanwhile think about how your personal details could have been obtained, including 'friends' and relatives. Give as much info as possible about the circumstances.

The unknown address of your mail redirection is an obvious clue, but beware of indulging in any investigation yourself.

  • I think we need proof of the debt - copy something that we can go on to see what we can come up with.

OP, I am confused as to how the 'heavies' managed to find their way to your door when no previous correspondence managed to.  Also, you had you mail redirected?  If so, what are you hoping that this will achieve.  You should also contact the CC companies directly and report this a fraud.

Someone has arranged for OP mail to be redirected so they can commit the fraud/stop OP noticing all these card accounts etc
  • Royal Mail have their own investigation branch - I expect fraudulent redirection of personal mail will come within their remit as well.
Worth reporting it to them to see where that goes.
