SIUPERCARD BLACK unauthorised direct debits

2 Posts

Noticed a direct debit for £199.95 from supercard black on my 90yr old mothers account. My mother lacks mobility, deaf and virtually non-verbal, she does not have an email address nor does she have any internet or electronic media. She has not recieved any correspondence from supercard black and she has not made any purchases from any other 3rd parties. i make all purchases on her behalf.
She does not have any insurance for white goods.
When i contacted superblack and asked how they managed to get her bank details in order to set up the direct debit i was told it was probably through a whitegoods insurance company, but could not tell me the name of the company.
Firstly, it is an offence under GDPR for a third party to pass on data without consent.
I am waiting for a telephone call from supercard black to confirm which company passed on my mothers bank details ( i am sure they should have a record of this, or evidence of consent).
It seems a recurring theme (looking at other comments on trustpilot that this company targets the elderly.
i would advise all affected to contact action fraud and trading standards .

How did they get your mothers account details ?
If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.
On many occasions someone has told me that they don't know what happened because they are so careful, and every single time I prove them wrong.
However if this is a parasitic company preying on the elderly then I hope you screw them into the ground.

I wonder if the OP has inadvertently signed up to this.

As i said before my mother is 90yrs old, almost non-verbal, non-mobile, deaf and has carers in 4 x a day.
carers have no access to bank details and are given cash for purchases.
I am the only person to make purchases for her have not made any purchases using her card on her behalf for at least 2 yrs.
The funny thing is the direct debit was set up on the 23rd of January and appeared on her bank app as withdrawal on 28th Jan.
She has been in hospital since the 28th December and is still there.
there has been no correspondence with this company whatsoever.
I rang them on their premium rate number and they insisted they had received instruction and bank details over the phone. That would be immpossible.
I have emailed them and demanded a full refund.
I have emailed them with a "Subject Access Request " asking for all data held on my mother and evidence of consent to direct debit, including recorded telephone calls. They have 1 month to provide the data otherwise I will report them to Information Commissioners Office as they would have broken the law under GDPR regulations. ( something I advise others to do in these situations)
I have complained to trading standards and reported to fraud line Action fraud.
if money not refunded I will get it back off the bank.
I have no idea how these companies are getting bank details.
PS I did get a full refund off supercard black after many threats.
