SANTANDER SWIFT PAYMENT PROBLEM

WE REQUESTED AN ONLINE ELECTRONIC FUND TRANSFER TO BE MADE FROM SANTANDER TO A SUPPLIER ON THE 18 DEC 2020 FOR £30157.00. IT APPEARS THAT SANTANDER HAVE DEBITED OUR ACCOUNT ON THIS DAY, HOWEVER, THE SWIFT PAYMENT HAS NOT BEEN RECEIVED BY THE RECIPIENT BANK. UPON TELEPHONING SANTANDER ALL THEY KEEP REPEATING TO US IS THAT "ONGOING CHECKS" ARE BEING DONE. THEY CANNOT CONFIRM WHEN THIS PAYMENT WILL BE FINALISED OR WHY THERE IS SUCH A DELAY. NORMALLY SWIFT PAYMENTS ARE PROCESSED WITHIN 4 DAYS! NOT APPROACHING A MONTH. WE HAVE ASKED SANTANDER TO LOOK INTO IT BUT STILL NO NEWS! CAN WE ASK FOR THE TRANSACTION TO BE CANCELLED & FOR OUR ACCOUNT TO BE CREDITED WITH THIS AMOUNT? ANY ADVICE ON WHAT STEPS WE SHOULD TAKE NEXT?

But seriously, delays due to vague "ongoing checks" probably means anti-money-laundering or similar concerns are being dealt with. Which aren't going to be clarified to you. I suspect you'll just need to sit it out a bit longer.
In any event, I guess a £30k payment to an overseas supplier is nothing to do with UK consumer rights.0 -
Thank you David. This does help. It would be useful if they could just give us some indication of how much longer it will take as the company who've supplied us with the Machinery will be coming to re-possess next week if payment has not been completed.0

Would be better in banking board as not a consumer rights issue.
But Swift payments can go through many intermediaries before they reach the intended bank account. You have to factor public holidays in to the timescale here across many countries.
My guess that " On going checks" means they are chasing the payment and waiting on a response from the banks it has been through.
