Barclays Abuse

Hello,
Barclays closed my personal account without any valid explanations. I wonder if I could sue them on the grounds that I have told them that I have evidence to proove my innocence and they disregarded it?

They can close your account at any time - they may have simply decided they don't want you as a customer.
As they have closed your account with immediate effect they suspect something very serious .
Have you broken their T&C in any way ? Used your account for business purposes, lots of unusual transfers, monies from abroad, money laundering .............?Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill0 -
Anyone can sue anyone they like, the question is whether you would win or not and if you can afford to take on the bank
Is it really worth the hassle vs opening an account somewhere else?1 -

Nicoleta, if you want any meaningful discussion about this then you'll need to disclose more of the story, i.e. did they close immediately or with notice? What evidence did they ask you for? Did they act in accordance with their Ts & Cs? What do you think is their reasoning? What quantifiable losses have you suffered if you believe you have some sort of case to sue?2 -
What abuse has taken place and by whom?1

"We can close an account (and stop providing any services and end this agreement) by giving you at least two months’ notice. Any benefit or services linked to your account will stop at the same time. However, we may end this agreement immediately or on less notice (and stop providing services and close your account) if we reasonably believe you have seriously or persistently broken any terms of the agreement or we have reasonable grounds for thinking you have done any of the following things, which you must not do:
• You put us in a position where we might break a law, regulation, code or other duty that applies to us if we maintain your account.
• You give us any false information at any time.
• You commit (or attempt) fraud against us or someone else.
• You use (or allow someone else to use) your account illegally or for criminal activity, including receiving proceeds of crime into your account.
• You inappropriately let someone else use your account.
• You behave in a threatening or abusive manner to our staff.
• You become bankrupt (unless you have a Barclays Basic Current Account).
We can also end this agreement immediately (and stop providing services and close your account) if we reasonably believe that maintaining your account might expose us (or another Barclays company) to action or censure from any government, regulator or law enforcement agency."
Good luck suing someone for acting within the confines of the contract you agreed with them.
According to the terms, "proof" is irrelevant and they're entitled to close your banking facilities if they simply suspect something. If you didn't like this part of the contract, you shouldn't have signed it. But you did. So it stands.0 -
@Nicoleta2127 Immediate or 28 days seems to be the question ?Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill0

If they want rid of the customer, they may make a business decision to close immediately regardless of the T&Cs knowing that some will just move on and others will complain and they will incur some compensation to dispose of the relationship.
They can also keep the account open officially (for 60 days + postage time) but cancel all the direct debits, standing orders and cards making it difficult to operate.0 -
