Recurring wifi problem with laptop?

Would anyone have an idea of what's going on with this?
About a year ago I had a problem with the wifi on my laptop. It would randomly disconnect many times during the day and would need 2 or 3 restarts first thing in the morning before it would connect.
I tried a number of things and nothing fixed it, so I did a clean reinstall of W10.
3 months later the same things starts again! Again I try to fix it, reinstall the drivers, try older drivers (no new drivers available), etc. and again nothing fixes it. So I reinstall W10 yet again.
And I'm in the same place now. 2 restarts to get it to connect first thing and random disconnects through out the day. This time I've bought a usb wifi device and disabled the inbuilt wifi and it's worked for the last few days. But I need the usb port back!
It's an Alienware 17(r2). Running W10 pro.
It's used as a work machine so doesn't have software added to it past the install, so office, final draft, waterfox, zoom, skype all added when Windows has finished loading.
Nothing new installed before the wifi problem starts.
When it won't connect first things it can't see that there's a problem. I run troubleshooter and it say no problems found. The icon on the taskbar says connected, but it's not really as nothing will connect.
I thought of a hardware issue, but it were that, why would work fine for the first couple of months after a clean reinstall?
Can anyone suggest a long term fix?
Thanks...

I would be tempted to change the wifi card, cheap as chips on ebay. My wifi card was giving problems so I swapped between 2 laptops and both now work fine in their new locations - go figure !

Can you get a USB adapter to give you more outputs?0

You can buy an internet dongle which just plugs in a usb port for around £30. Probably easier than taking the back off and replacing the WiFi card for some people.0
