I wonder if it's because it would be a total nuisance to enforce? Would wouldn't you consider simultaneous exchange/ completion?0

We exchanged and completed on an empty probate sale a couple of days later, this luxury added £200 to the conveyancing bill. I would have happily waited until the end of the week if I had realised.
Perhaps the conveyancer suggested it to enhance their fee?1 -
Could someone please explain how you sort out broadband and satellite tv when exchange and completion are simultaneous?
My current broadband supplier says they need 28 days notice to set up in a new house and I don't suppose Sky can do it much quicker!
I know the completion date can be agreed in advance but nothing is certain until it's done!0 -
You shouldn't be ordering any utilities until you are actually in occupation. If there is a dish already in place then you will be able to get all the Freesat from Sky channels straight away anyway. If not, use the aerial to get Freeview. No free lunch, and no free laptop

Unfortunately at lot of people get stuck with that problem. I thought I would be (completed the day after exchange) and was going put up with using my phone as a hotspot and use the aerial for tv.Joe9090 said:Could someone please explain how you sort out broadband and satellite tv when exchange and completion are simultaneous?

However you might get lucky. When I moved in I contacted Virgin who told me that I already had a connection for their kit and it took 3 working days for it to arrive by courier. I knew the previous owners had a different provider so I wasn't expecting Virgin to send something over so quickly. You could check to see what connection they have and if this would have any impact on how quick you can get it up and running. Although, I was moving from a house share and wasn't named on the broadband so didn't have to worry about giving notice to cancel at my previous address.

We’ve just instructed solicitors as we are buying a house, in one of their additional fees it says something like: if completion is within five days of exchange-£95.fleur8 said:

Thanks for the replies...very useful. The other thing to bear in mind on broadband and tv when moving is to try and ensure you are not bound by long term contracts at your old address. Your suppliers will most probably be very happy to transfer your accounts to the new address but if for any reason they cannot supply they will still expect you to pay the remainder of the contracts.MaryNB said:
