Re-directing mail (delayed move)

So I filled out a mail re-direct form last week as we were due to move next week. But that now looks extremely unlikely.
The issue is we do not currently have any idea where we will go once we leave our current property next week.
We may be able to stay at the wife's parents, but they are re-decorating the spare room (sod's law), so we're not sure, we may have to go into a hotel.
What am I best doing, completely cancelling the re-direct or should we just change the re-direct address to the in-laws?
If we then end up moving to our new property a couple of weeks later, do I have to pay again to re-re-direct the mail?

Honestly. I would just redirect to in-laws. Will it be easy to get mail from them? I imagine once you are in you will change the address in everything you can think of anyway, so just having their address as a catch all is probably easier than paying twice. As long as they are ok with that.

YEs, either redirect there (presumably you can then either pick it up from them, or leave them with some big envelopes and money for postage and ask them to bundle it up and send it on to you once a week, or, if you prefer, (and if you are likely to be local at least in the short term) check if you can redirect to a PO box and set one up for now.

Yeah this sounds like the best option for now, thanks.
They'll be ok with it, I just won't tell them! 😂

I've done ours for minimum available (3 months) to our temp accommodation as its a long way from friends & relatives, and I didn't want to miss or delay anything important re our purchase. When we have exchanged on next home, I'll have to cancel redirection and set up another from old address to new address. No refunds.
Shouldn't be a problem as long as my payment card still registered to old address.
Won't bother setting up yet another redirection from temp to new address as only solicitor & local CT will send stuff here. Also, it belongs to a friend, who will have to start visiting again after we leave, so she can forward any strays
Blummin complicated this chain breaking stuff!

Yes we will be breaking the chain on Friday and moving in with in-laws. We're likley be there 3-6 weeks (maybe longer).

I'm wondering whether or not to actually change my address with banking etc, so I don't miss anything in case the re-direct doesn't work.

Is this wise? Just change the address then change it again when we move permanently.

I moved into a house recently and have reposted maybe 15 pieces of mail for the sellers over 6 weeks. While some of it may have been posted before the redirect came into play, some of it arrived a few weeks after so definitely got missed.

If you don't change your address right away I would advise leaving a note asking if they could do they same. Just needs to be popped back in a post box.

Yeah that's the worry. I'm just wondering whether it's worth actually changing my address for some of my more important correspondence, then changing it again when we move finally.

If it's your bank, could you move to paperless statements etc., for a bit?

I've gone paperless with almost everything possible, to avoid major issues. I won't inform banks until our final move as I can't face doing everything twice for such a short period. Similar timescale to you, we moved here 7th Jan and likely completion date is 4th Feb or shortly after, depending on our removals availability.
