Obviously slim to non-existent . . . but what if it was worth £210,000,000 ?

Feel sad for the guy as it's a particularly cruel situation knowing that it's still in there somewhere0

50% chance. Either you do or you don't.Mickey666 said:Obviously slim to non-existent . . . but what if it was worth £210,000,000 ?

Would it have ended up in landfill or would it have been separated out for recycling?coffeehound said:...knowing that it's still in there somewhere2 -
No idea if you're being serious or not there, but someone tried to claim similar on an investing thread on here a while ago (without any discernible irony) and seemed to have difficulty grasping the concept that two possible outcomes might not be equally likely!stephenadarglas said:

P.S. One thing's for sure, the chances of finding the drive are somewhat less now than they were when the Beeb first covered this story in 2013!

Spare a thought for Satoshi Nakamoto, Bitcoin's mysterious inventor, who has over £30 billion worth of BItcoin locked away, almost certainly lost forever.Naturally if Nakamoto returned he wouldn't actually be able to get £30 billion for his Bitcoin - and the same is true for all the other schmucks with lost Bitcoin worth so many millions of pounds. If all that Bitcoin was found and unlocked, the price would collapse. There isn't enough money on the table to pay Nakomoto £30,000 odd for every one of his million Bitcoins. So that might soothe them slightly. Bitcoin is only worth as much as it is because their coins are lost - along with all the others.7

I read the story earlier and it made me smile! I can’t help think he’s got a very low chance of finding it, and it then being in a usable state!0

Something about this story docent sound right in 2013 when he threw it away they were worth £13M
"He kept the hard drive in his office drawer and "totally forgot about bitcoin all together" - so when he had a clear out, he believed everything had been taken off it."
If I had £13M worth in 2013 on a hard drive it wouldn't be kept in a drawer.....it would be under 24hr armed guard

Reminds me a bit of Only Fools and Horses, with Freddie the frog's gold.
