O/S Daily Thursday 14 January 2021
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning
Morning everyone
Hugs to those that want/need them, those who are poorly and those who are looking after a poorly person x
Happy birthday to those with a birthday x
Wet and cold start to the day, rain started yesterday and has continued ever since, doesn't look like it will change much over the coming days.
DH and DS1 getting ready for work, I'm showered, dressed and enjoying my first cuppa and my porridge. DS2 settled and happy.
Dinner last night was LO pork, mash, veg, LO yorkshires and gravy. Tonight will be egg, bacon, beans, mushrooms, sliced saute potatoes, I have alot of bacon - some of which needs using up.
Work wasn't great yesterday - I had the first of the meetings that outlined what they are proposing for the staffing levels, I'm failry sure I will have to take a pay cut if I can secure 1 of the jobs - several people have applied for VR that door is still open but I'm not at the right age to consider that at the moment. Hoping I can still have a job, but nothing is certain. The figures used to calculate the staffing needed are way off and it's likely that there won't be enough staff.
I want to get quite a few jobs done this morning, I'll be stripping our bed and remaking our bed and doing some housework, it needs it looks a bit of mess at the moment.
I'll get the housework done shortly then the day is my own.
Keep safe and well x

Thanks NMLC, that sounds to be a real mess, I hope things work out ok for you.
I lost yesterday to a migraine, I spent most of it sleeping and then slept all night. Hopefully I'll be able to help with Esben a bit more today as he was really suffering with his teeth, he's getting his canines which people say are the most painful coming through, I just wish they'd hurry up.
Laura wants to do some sewing today if we can fit it in so we will give that a go. I also want to give all the bathrooms a thorough going over as well and make some flapjacks and fritters for Esben - salmon for dinner tonight. That and Esben should keep me busy enough I think.
Tru, I was sorry to hear about Miss Tru's job, I hope she gets something else soon. Ruby, boo to the healing, I hope you get it sorted soon.14 -
Good morning, and thanks for starting NMLC - sorry to hear work is so grim, I hope you can get one of the jobs.We have more snow here, it started last night, we knew it was coming though.I don't need to go out today, unless we go for a walk down to the park to feed the birds, will see how the weather goes.Didn't do much yesterday, just the usual jobs, and DH went into the loft to sort out paint, and handed down 2-3 almost empty cans that were thrown out. What started this off was that we are going to paint our bedroom, bought the paint a couple of weeks ago, and he knew we had some white emulsion up there. We'll start on Monday, and we can move into the spare for a couple of nights.Once we would have done the room in a day, and had it tidied and cleaned, but now we are cracking on a bit we've slowed down, and of course we're retired so time is not a factor. Having said that we like to get it done, but there's not the urgency that there used to be when we worked. There's not the energy either! One thing I did do yesterday was send Flowerc*rds to DD and Dil, well the family really, I thought it would give them a bit of a lift. For the Australian family I sent flowers using a florist local to them (the wonders of the internet).Hope everyone is ok, thinking of those who are not well or finding life difficult.Take care folks.15

Morning folks and thanks NMLC. They are certainly keeping you on a knife edge jobwise. Hope it turns out for the best for you.
Well the horrible forecast was right and we have yet more snow, with further heavy falls to come before it eases (they say!) to sleet by lunchtime. Didn't we have more than our share last week!! I have the excitement of 2 deliveries today so I hope the snow doesn't put paid to those! One from Bo*ts and the other a supply of Sparkle's favoured cat food. It's hard to come by hereabouts and I wanted to make sure I had enough stocks through lockdown so ordered direct with Hi-Life. I only ordered it yesterday so how's that for service?!
The appliance cupboard did get sorted out yesterday, out of necessity, as the bottom shelf is shared with Sparkle's provisions and I wanted to make sure there was room for today's delivery. It all looks a bit hotchpotch but the best I can do until I sort out the shelves under the stairs and maybe transfer seldom used things out there. Maybe a job for today (or maybe not!)
There was still quite a bit of Sunday's gammon joint left last night so that has been sliced and frozen and put in the tidy (for now!) freezer. Though I did chop some of it up and left it in the fridge for an omelette at lunchtime. Then I will be all gammoned out for now!
Have a good day folks and ((HUGS)) for all in need. DP1 your DD is on the hug list too and hoping she is soon well again. RUBY I'm sorry, but not surprised, that stupid scumbag did a no show yesterday, you all have worries enough. MARIE thinking of you. Take care one and all and stay safe and sane x

Thank you for starting us off NMLC. Work sounds a challenge - we went through something similar last year and, you're right, we are now with the same amount of work but less people... I too wasn't at an age to consider VR and, honestly, dread the thought of having to go and find a job elsewhere.
Heavy rain here today and I could also hear it in the night - we have snow forecast for this afternoon but I suspect it's too wet for it to settle.
I've had a clean round and I'm on the second wash of the day. I have also prepared some lunch as I have a meeting starting at 12.30 so need a quick lunch today. TA has just given me the idea of an omelette this evening which would be lovely!
I noticed a spillage in our freezer in the garage - there's a tub of ice cream on it's side and I think that is what has leaked. It will have to be a job for Saturday as I won't have time before then. Still it will be good to clear it out anyway!
Have a great day everyone.

Morning folks.Sorry that your work situation is such rubbish NMLC. I know it's very unsettling.Well, we too have snow. Not the predicted 8" just a fairly light covering but it's on a bed of ice. There's more promised. I only have to go as far as the postbox which is less than 20 yards from the main door but I may just wait and give it the postie when he comes. My shopping trip was uneventful though frustrating as two branches of Waitrose didn't have DM's favourite cherry pie. Think I go too early for stock to have arrived. Costco didn't have what I wanted but had diesel at a very good price so filled the car up.I thought I'd give some of the plant-based food a go so I bought a packet of YS 'no chicken' nuggets in Marks. I really tried but they're not for me. The pea protein had such a strange texture, like uncooked chicken, and the crumb was sweet although the taste was OK. Perhaps I'll try something else from the range, or perhaps I won't. 😂Yesterday afternoon Scottish Water started to dig up the road at the corner opposite, that part has had a flooding problem for years which no amount of drain clearing sorted. They brought in more vans more heavy gear, closed off the road and carried on working until just past midnight. What a noise they made, apart from the huge diggers and cranes the workers took to shouting to be heard. Kept me awake for ages. ☹️New restrictions start here on Saturday, no going inside takeaways, no click and collect apart for essential goods and making it law to work from home if it's possible. Could have been much worse.Today I have no plans. I'm contemplating clearing out the bathroom cabinet, either that or my navel. 😀
I hope that everyone can keep warm. Happy Thursday to all.13 -
Morning all! Raining here again. Didn't go out yesterday, made do with what we had and it turned out to be enough because I always make too much usually so this time, it was more or less just enough. The liver and bacon was a hit, with me anyway.OH, not so much, although he did like the gravy, so he had burgers. There's plenty to put some in the freezer for when I fancy it again. Thanks for thr reminder about the cat food TA, I need to get some soon too. Definitely going to the veg place today, honest guv. That's if the car will start. A sponge with chopped up apples in it is on the cards for after when the hock is in the oven. And that's my day...What an absolute idiot Ruby. Hugs for your daughter because of what she has to do now. Gers, love the starfish description. Have fun with the cabinet...?
Snoozer, hoe the fater effects wear off quick. It's not nice. Hugs for those who want them, imagine a gert big Sulley [monster inc.] hug coming your way...

Morning All
Snowing here this morning, like Gers it's on top of the ice from yesterday so not a great day in store, more staying in! I was going to go for a walk with DD and the little one but that'll not happen.
I spent most of yesterday laid on the sofa watching rubbish TV, must try harder today. I managed to spill the white wine and garlic sauce from a plate of mussels on the sofa, serves me right for not sitting at the table. Although I've scrubbed it twice it still smells a bit fishy so will have to try something else today.
Very unsettling for you nmlc, hope it all gets sorted soon.
Hope you feel better today Snoozer.
What a rat Ruby, hope he gets what he deserves when they find him.
Hoping your DD is feeling better dp1.
Hugs to those in need, especially Marie and Ruby.
Be safe today, take care. XX14 -
Morning
No snow here just constant rain and grey skies.
Another day in paradise ahead with the only real plans being emptying the dishwasher and putting the bins out. Also have to pick up a few of my volunteer calls after the holidays so that's something vaguely useful.
I got some peppered mackerel out of the freezer so today ill probably have a piece in a risotto then make some pate for lunches
nmlc hope it works out for you at work with all the extra training you have bend doing I'm sure it will
Have a good day all and keep smiling12 -
Good morning and thank you for starting the thread nmlc. I'm sorry that you are going through this at work, can't be a lot of fun. We had something similar at work twice in the few years before I eventually retired. I actually retired pretty late and would have taken VR but it was not available to me, they wanted to retain my grade and lose some people in senior management. It was horribly disruptive.
After a very tired day yesterday, during which I did some jobs but couldn't tell you what they were because of the fog of tiredness, I have had a decent sleep and now approximate a human, as far as that is possible for me. It is very wet, not especially cold. My tablet is now refusing to tell me the weather on the met office app. OH has just told me that we are meant to have snow but I found an alternative weather prediction which says not so it is anyone's guess but I don't think it will stick even if it does snow.
RR I am sorry to hear that your daughter's ex failed to appear, predictable I suppose. Hope this will soon be sorted for her emotional health's sake - and yours.
TA does Sparkle have to have an injection - if not, could the vet just offer a repeat prescription and send it in the post?
Time I was dressed and doing stuff, need to return to list making because I keep getting in a muddle about what I mean to do, not that it will be much. So far I have fed the birds (so wet they are staying in their nests though) and had some breakfast. I know I have handwashing to do and as usual, a load of washing. I think I might revert to one room a day.
Thinking of all of us who are struggling with life at present, theoretically further restrictions are unlikely to have a massive effect on me but I could be quite wrong.
Hope everyone has a good day.I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back12 -
Morning everyone, today is mild again but with mizzling rain. On a good note I didn't have to put the heating on at all yesterday and I hope the same for today.Yesterday I tidied up the freezers and there is now some room left in the chest one, however the other is choc a bloc. When I get my cooking mojo back (think it's gone on holiday
) I will make some of my own ready meals and freeze them. I could have done with one of them yesterday, however Mr Fix It stepped in and did hassleback potatoes and gammon steaks, lovely.
Today I shall empty the DW when it's finished, then wash the kitchen floor and the rest of day is my own to do as I please. I usually like to make a "to do " list and work through it but lately I keep getting easily distracted, I'm in butterfly mode again it seems. I think just some tidying and sorting out will be on the cards for today. Tea tonight will be bacon, sausage and eggs etc so not too taxing.NMLC Sorry that work is dreadful now, I have everything crossed that things will turn out in your favour.MeanMarie hope you're ok.Take care all, stay safe and keep well. Hugs to anyone in need. Healing vibes to all the poorly ones.nan xxFailure is simply the opportunity to begin again, but this time more intelligently12
