When a freebie for entering a competition turns out not to be free

I don't smoke but I entered this Daily Mail competition anyway - https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/6194446/e-11-10-win-an-ipad-pro-free-igiveabutt-stub-tidy-for-each-entrant last year.
That was a bad decision; my 'free stub tidy' was sent with just a 2nd class stamp on it so was held at the post office meaning I had to pay £1.50 to find out what the item was; wish I hadn't bothered now. Going on how many people would have entered this competition I think Royal Mail will have profited quite nicely from this 'admin error'.

I got a card this week to say there was £1.50 to pay on an item, I'll bet that is what it is, I think I will tell the PO to return it to sender.
I was going to give it to the guy next door for all his stub ends but that was when it was a free gift.1 -
I got a card today from post office to say there was £1.50 to pay and it’s a brown envelope, so I’m guessing I’m in this club too1

Same here, postman left a card for underpayment of £1.50 including handling charge of £1. Picked it up and paid before reading this thread. Wasn't the weight, but the bulk probably. Not worth 50p never mind £1.503
