One day car insurance for the over-80s

My 83 year old scrapped his car as it was too expensive to repair last month and will be looking to buy a new car soon.  In the meantime, he wants to borrow my car occasionally but I can't find insurers who will do temporary car cover for 1 day or so at his age.  My current insurer says the cheapest option is to add him for £300 permanently but my dad is too tight and won't let me accept it.  I have already contacted ageco.co.uk but you have to have an existing policy with them to accept an additional driver for temporary cover.  Does anyone know of any insurers that over temporary car insurance for the over 80s?

if its infrequent use it would possibly be cheaper to use taxis or cabs

If it is just a one off then adding him as a temporary additional driver should be much less than £300... it'll probably attract an admin fee so if he needs it for a few days then try and do it all in one stint
