MCE cancelled my insurance

I think the confusion came with the continuous card payment, I have had insurance from MCE in the past and it was via DD and with all the companies I've been with since this was never an option either. It would still have been prudent to contact all payment recipients just to confirm the new account details anyway a good out come and a lesson learned0

They Have made a 50 pound payment in compensation, considering he’s lost five months insurance , having paid nearly 2000 pounds had one more payment only to make , and would have been insured until May when the next policy would be a third of cost small comfort , what a joke of a company0

It does highlight the importance of avoiding unhelpful and uniformed speculation that it was your sons fault for not checking his spam filters, and that MCE would have definitely sent out emails when in fact they did nothing of the sort etc0 -

Hi everyone, we've covered this issue today and provided an update as MCE has cancelled all policies effective 14 Jan or 31 Jan depending on your policy.

Yeah this really should be it's own thread.
Incidentally, I can't see any mention of this cancellation outside of the MSE article. There's nothing on MCE's website.

Agreed this needs a thread. The big issue for everyone affected is whether this needs to be declared when asked "have you ever had insurance cancelled". A plain reading of the question and facts indicates yes, because the question price comparison sites and online quotes ask almost never says anything about who or what caused the cancellation. So that's a hundred thousand people who face a lifetime of higher premiums and hassle through no fault of their own. Without some sort of official statement from someone like the Ombudsman or the MIB, I can't see it any other way.Unless, perhaps, you cancel first. Almost no time for car/van drivers to do that but there's the rest of the month for bikers. The question is whether MCE's actions are interpreted as "your policy will be cancelled on X date" (which then doesn't happen if you cancel first) or as "your policy has been cancelled and X date is the last day of cover" (and the cancellation is regarded as having already happened). Cancelling yourself will also no doubt incur fees that take away from the premium refund.0

OK, so in the other thread (in the Insurance Board) there is a possible answer. The language used is that the policy is disclaimed and not cancelled. On the LegalAdviceUK the opinion is that that distinction is meaningful and this does not have to be declared as a cancellation because it is not, by the legal definitions in this context, a cancellation.

Hopefully my claim to the ombudsman wasn’t the straw that broke the camels back ,in some respects they did is a favour , an appalling company with a litany of complaints and excuses for applying extra charges , and their excuse ‘ computer failures ‘ a true shame for those who have claims being processed and now finding difficulties on motoring forums , they don’t deserve to be in business I only hope the multi millionaire owner doesn’t somehow start another company perhaps this will disqualify him0
