The likelihood is that this cat is the local six-dinners-Sid, and locking it out of the catflap will do it no harm whatsoever. You may get some dirty looks from a windowsill for a short while until it takes the hint.

Even if it is genuinely free-range, then it'll quickly find another sucker home.
  • Thanks for all the advice and sorry about the thread title it should have read 'Looking after landlords cat'

Good news however tha LL has agreed to pay the gas/electric in return for allowing the cat to stay.... Thanks again all

Sounds like a good result. You get a free cat and don't have to worry about how much you have the heating on for. Is cat meat really that expensive?

No. It's really cheap and nutricious too.
Though I prefer dog meat for a really good winter stew. Puppies are more tender, but have less meat on them.

What about your mum who this won't do any good for and doesn't want a cat?

  • When you said you've reached an agreement do you have it in writing? Do you have pet insurance and do you have proof that the landlord will pay the lekky?

I would make sure you get it in writing.
Also if the landlord isn't paying for pet insurance, put your gas and leccie money in a savings account to cover any vet bills.

I suspect it'll have a very long life, possibly so long its appearance changes every decade.
