Faulty Fridge

I bought a Beko fridge from AO in October. There was a bad smell coming from it straight awy, which was so bad it was tainting my food. There's also a lot of water leaking into the fridge compartment. AO told me to contact Beko, who sent out an engineer. When the engineer pulled the drip tray from the bottom of the fridge, it was disgusting, caked in green slime and the smell was foul. The engineer has no idea what has caused it, but is replacing the drip tray and the hose. We washed out the old drip tray for now, and its so bad that the plastic is stained. My concern is that, without a known cause, if that happened within  the 10 weeks I've had the fridge, what's to stop it happening again. However, i can't see that it got that bad in the period I've owned the fridge. What are my rights in relation to getting a replacement fridge rather than just having the tray and hose replaced?

It sounds like the fridge wasn't actually new (possibly a returned/refurbished unit) to be smelling like that when you first got it. Maybe the leak was the reason it was returned? For the plastic to be stained in < 10 weeks of use seems unlikely.

It sounds like the mysterious grey bio-goo featured in the "Calgon" adverts (in which a washing machine engineer inexplicably sticks his hand in, pulls out some, and has a sniff at it -- you'd think he'd know better)
