Thanks for this. Actually He wont contribute a penny,, I will be paying all myself with UC help to rent and part time job I do. I will need to consider if he will want to end his tenancy. Bear in mind that should your ex change his mind about contributing to the rent, then you will both be jointly and severally liable for any arrears, not for 50% of it. He can also end the joint tenancy by giving sole notice.
With his name remaining on the tenancy agreement, you may well end up paying full CT, without the 25% SPD.

It may be better for him to act as a guarantor to the tenancy rather than a joint tenant as a way to avoid potential future debates on if he is actually living there with you or not if you are dependent on benefits/council tax discounts etc1
