Declaring SORN and still paying road tax?

Whaaat? If it's SORNd, as soon as you tax it, the SORN is cancelled and it is then taxed (assuming it has a valid MOT).Trip_2 said:I don't want to declare SORN because then I can't tax it.
And as others have pointed out, the 'Drive other cars' cover of your policy will state in the small-print that car must not be owned by you, and must have valid insurance in place already. So you're good on the first point as it's registered to your wife, but not the 2nd as she's not insuring it.
So to use it, you need to pay up for insurance and tax.

Beware that does not prove she owns it (or more importantly in this case, that the OP does not own i).1 -
So the car is never on the road uninsured because it's either garaged or I'm driving it.
I don't want to have to buy separate insurance for this car which will never be used. I don't want to declare SORN because then I can't tax it
what has happened for you to want to change the status quo?1 -
I suspect the answer is that a Continuous Insurance fixed penalty has caught up with him. In which case, the follow-up question is what took so long?sheramber said:So the car is never on the road uninsured because it's either garaged or I'm driving it.

It certainly isn't the legislation - because that came in in 2011.1 -

Or more probably his wife as she, apparently, is the Registered Keeper.1 -
I have a policy which gives me third party cover if I drive another vehicle, but the other vehicle has to be insured in its own right whether it belongs to me or not. This is industry standard, iirc.0
