How long does it take from mortgage approval to completion?

Help! We are in a pickle. How long does it take from receiving your mortgage approval to completion?
We have sold our house and must vacate on the 29th but our mortgage approval papers for our new house aren’t through yet. We are porting via platform and it has been so frustrating. They have massive delays just now, which I understand but their customer service is undeniably bad (waiting weeks for a phone call or not getting the phone call returned at all and having to chase it up on multiple occasions). Our sellers don’t want to start the ball rolling until we have our mortgage approval incase they are left out of pocket, we are desperately hoping it comes soon as moving in less than three weeks. Oh and I’m 32 weeks pregnant! So how long will it take after the approval? I have already resided to the idea that we will need temporary accommodation but not sure if it’s best to go for an air bnb or look for a rental, it all depends on if it takes weeks or months.
Thanks for reading 😊

It depends what else is outstanding on the conveyancing front. Searches in, enquiries answered, contracts/deeds all ready and signed etc?

Mortgage approval is only one of the dozens of different steps involved. Seeing as how you haven't told us what stage the other 30+ steps are at my best guess is somewhere between 2 weeks and 2 years.

Are the searches bavk ?  That seems to be a critical point in the process

I'll need to open the string drawer in my kitchen. Again.
  • Now that we are in stranger times, I read somewhere, the "average" house buying process has been extended by an extra 6-7 months.
Usually a "standard" house buying with no complications process takes about 3-4 months from start to finish, but then add on the extra 6-7 months, and pretty much coming up to a year.
Obviously, more complex house purchases could be as other have said 2 years.

I'm confused, you've sold but your sellers (onward purchase) are still waiting for your mortgage approval? Do you have your searches and enquiries done?
    So your in chain?
Or not and your willing to sell without your new purchase? Not sure how that can work if your porting the mortgage?
We got our mortgage approved before we paid out for anything else or instructed the solicitor tbh! Incase it didnt come through

Sorry if iv misread but pls elaborate further :-)
