Receiving Housing Benefit whilst on state pension

HI
My mum is 76 and retired at the end of October as her employer wanted to put on a zero hours contract, she lives in rented accommodation and so has fixed outgoings, rent etc so after discussion we decided it was probably finally time for her to retire. I completed the application for to start receiving housing benefit, council tax support and pension credit which she is now receiving, £382 per month HB  but is no longer receiving her state pension of £720 per month . This leaves her with £5 to live on after paying rent of £377 per month. I didn't realise she would no longer be able to receive any of her state pension if she applied for housing benefit ? Is that correct ? Are we able to withdraw the claim for housing benefit as if she is only able to receive one of these benefits the state pension would be better.
Please no judgements about living on benefits, she has worked full time and always paid into the system since she was 14 years old but like many of us has made some rather bad decisions where money is concerned so now finds herself in this situation.

This doesn't sound right to me. Has she rang them to ask why her state pension has stopped? Contact details here. https://www.gov.uk/contact-pension-service

    Something's gone awry somewhere.

Your Mum should still receive her state pension in addition to Housing Benefit/Housing Allowance.  And if she is awarded Pension Credit, then she should also receive the difference between her state pension and the set amount for pension credit.  Also, being on Pension Credit, she should receive the maximum allowed Housing Benefit/Housing Allowance, and full Council Tax Benefit, plus free TV Licence.

A phone call to DWP should resolve the matter.

They will be open tomorrow morning and it's most likely just an error somewhere.

If her State pension is £720/4 weeks that is £180/week. At this level she will not be entitled to any Guarantee Pension Credit but there may be a small amount of Savings Pension credit payable.

There are no circumstances in which a State Pension would stop so this is clearly an error.
