Great. Then report the pothole to the council, and get on with life. The council will fix it as soon as they can.

And check the rest of your wheel bolts, because that failure almost certainly did not happen because of the pothole.
so what are you saying caused the snapped bolts exactly? Even though the wheel fell off a short time after hitting the pothole. I have two people telling me one thing and two another

Wheel bolts could have been loose/faulty and the pothole was 'the straw that broke........'

Well, there's at least one there that looks fairly well seized - and if they weren't seized, then they'd have wound out easily with a LH drill bit.

When was that wheel last removed?

Just follow martins advice, you won't get any good advice here.

    The are all out now.

I think august/September the brake pads were changed but I didn’t own it at the time
  • As Martin says The authorities have a legal duty to maintain roads so they're safe for everyone to use. If they don't and your car's damaged, they should help pay the costs to repair it. If you have enough evidence then speak to your insurer.
I just wanted to know if I should go to the insurer first or the council. I’ve reported it online to the local council

With due deference to previous replies perhaps (or perhaps not) this MSE article will be of some use.

    ¯\_( ツ)_/¯
